The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Ministry has constituted a high powered committee headed by former cabinet secretary Prabhat Kumar (1963 batch IAS & former governor of Jharkhand) to formulate a comprehensive policy for MSMEs. This was announced by MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra.
At the moment there is no integrated approach to the development of MSME despite the fact that it accounts for 40 per cent of India's manufacturing and 45 per cent of exports. "The idea is to integrate various policies pertaining to the sector and come out with one comprehensive policy," Mishra said.
Stating that the draft policy will be first put in the public domain debate before finalizing the policy, he said a comprehensive policy was the need of the hour in view of industry associations demand for a single window for attending to their requirements for raw material, capital, manufacturing and marketing issues.
