The NaMo administration is expected to appoint five secretaries shortly. Of the five posts on offer, four are already vacant whereas one post will fall vacant on November 30 with the retirement of Rakesh Garg (IAS:1980:UP), the outgoing Secretary, Dept of Minority Affairs.
The post of Secretary, School Education and Literacy (MHRD), has been lying vacant since October 01, 2016 following the repatriation of Subhash Chandra Khuntia (IAS:1981:KN) as K'taka Chief Secretary. It has generated a lot of gossip as the crucially important post has been kept vacant probably for some specific choice. This case is similar to the Dept of Rural Development where the post of secretary has been vacant for three months for want of a particular officer.
Posts of secretaries in Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Dept of New and Renewable Energy have been lying vacant since November 01, 2016 following the retirement of Vinod Agarwal (IAS:1980:JH) and Upendra Tripathy (IAS:1981:KN) respectively. A Secretary rank post is also vacant in National Commission of Scheduled Tribes following the retirement of Anil Kumar Agarwal (IAS:1981:WB) on October 31.
If some well placed sources are to be believed secretaries of some of the most important departments may also be changed by November 22, 2016.
