Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that as many as five new posts of Executive Directors are being created in Air India. Reportedly, the memorandum for one, ED (Medical), has already been moved for a Cabinet approval and the memorandum for four posts of Executive Directors, Commercial, are being worked out. Going by the latest information, Air India may have four EDs in charge of commercial operations in the far east, Americas, Europe and the Gulf. It is not that these posts would be created for the first time in Air India. The system of ED Commercial for various regions prevailed in the airline until the Ministry scrapped these posts based on the recommendations of Justice DM Dharmadhikari Committee. The Committee was constituted on May 11, 2011, to look into various issues related to pay/wage rationalisation and restructuring in Air India post-merger. However, CMD Ashwani Lohani believes that a revival of the disbanded posts is critical to commercial operations of Air India.
