Amid COVID-19 pandemic regular media briefings have become a new normal and necessary practice for the government. Circumstantially, the faceless bureaucracy that keeps itself away from media glare is being appreciated for skillful handling at the time of crisis. The job assigned to two IAS officers Luv Agarwal (Joint Secretary, health ministry) and Punya Salila Srivastava (Joint Secretary, Home) are now catching eyeballs of the people from across the country with appreciation. Agrawal is being appreciated for his newfound oratory skills and articulate media briefing.

Another senior civil servant, who has entered into the scenario, making buzz is C K Mishra (IAS:1983:BH), Union Secretary for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, who addressed the media at the National Media Centre yesterday on completion of 30 days of nationwide lockdown.

People in power corridors started reading between lines after former Health Secretary Mishra was fielded to address media instead of the incumbent Health Secretary Ms Preety Sudan (IAS:1983:AP) superannuating next week.

Altogether 10 Secretary-level officials are heading the Empowered Group on COVID-19 in addition to the flag bearer Ms Preety Sudan but fielding former Health Secretary for voicing government’s views, strategy, and preparedness against COVID-19 made buzz across media and bureaucracy both.
