It has been observed that in the last two-three years Chief Secretaries of even non-BJP ruled states were given extension with the concurrence of Centre. In the very backdrop, Uttar Pradesh too appears a fit case for an extension to its outgoing Chief Secretary beyond 30 June 2018. State Chief Secretary Rajive Kumar (IAS:1981:UP) is set to retire this month. But many insiders appear to have differing opinion. If some well-placed sources are to be believed the state government, for certain reasons, is not so keen on the issue whereas the establishment at Centre wants extension in Rajive's tenure. This view sounds convincing too. It may be recalled that broadly Rajive Kumar was Centre's choice for UP CS assignment. Reportedly, Yogi Govt is not very satisfied with the affairs under the administrative leadership of the incumbent. At the same time Yogi Govt is also not fully dissatisfied with Rajive Kumar in person. Evaluating both the aspects, chances for the outgoing Chief Secretary getting a fresh lease of life is not so bleak either.
