Raipur (26.01.2024): Cases of Coal and liquor scams appears to have taken a new turn in Chhattisgarh. The Directorate of Enforcement has lodged an FIR with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Raipur against more than 70 people in the liquor scam and against 30 people in the coal scam including former Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh Vivek Kumar Dhand (Retd IAS: 1981: CG).
Name of one of the senior-most IAS officers in the FIR caught up the immediate attention of civil servants across services and batches within the state and outside as well. A section of insiders says that he is being dragged for his proximity to formerCM Bhupesh Baghel whereas others term him the lynchpin and fountainhead of all corruption in the Congress government led by Bhupesh Baghel.
Though the case was registered on January 17 but the information about the FIR came to the media on Friday.
Whatever be the outcome of the FIR and further investigation Dhand, having seen promising positions throughout his career, finds himself in a quagmire.
It may be underlined that Dhand became RERA chief in 2018 after his superannuation as Chief Secretary and then in February 2023 became the first Chairman of Chhattisgarh Innovation Commission (CIC). But immediately after the formation of the BJP Government in Chhattisgarh Dhand, sensing new BJP government’s preparedness of dismissing him from the coveted position, resigned from the position on January 05, 2024.
