Chennai (21.07.2025): With the tenure of the incumbent Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu Shankar Jiwal (IPS: 1990: TN) coming to an end on August 31, 2025, the selection of officers will now be in tune with the revised guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The appointment of the new DGP assumes significance as Tamil Nadu heads to the Assembly election early next year. 

As per the new rule, only officers of the rank of DGP in the Level-16 pay matrix will be eligible. Earlier, all IPS officers who had completed 30 years of service were entitled to be included in the list. In the order of seniority, Seema Agrawal (IPS: 1990: TN), Rajeev Kumar (IPS: 1992: TN) and Sandeep Rai Rathore (IPS: 1992: TN) top the list of 8 officers. Pramod Kumar (IPS: 1989: TN) and Abhay Kumar Singh (IPS: 1993: TN) may not be considered as they have less than six months of service left. The list of eligible officers is expected to be sent this week.
