New Delhi (26.01.2022): 1986 batch IAS officer and former secretary in the department of promotion of industry and international trade (DPIIT) Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra was conferred Padma Shri Award 2022 posthumously by President Ram Nath Kovind on the eve of Republic Day. He lost his life battling Corona in June last year. The untimely death of Mohapatra was mourned by all, from Prime Minister to ordinary people whose lives were touched by his presence. As chairman of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), he ensured the expansion of aviation infrastructure in tier 3 cities under UDAN scheme. As secretary DPIIT, he ensured that the work on ease of doing business gathered further pace and India moved up 14 positions on the global chart. He was instrumental in giving final shape to the guidelines for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. As municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad, he oversaw the Sabarmati riverfront redevelopment. He had great panache for resolving difficult issues. He remained a high-class performer till the end of his life.
