Amaravati (29.06.2022): The Andhra Pradesh government placed A B Venkateswara Rao (IPS: 1989: AP) under suspension, yet again, citing a pending investigation into a criminal charge against him. The suspension of DGP-rank officer would continue until termination of all proceedings relating to the charge. Rao was first suspended in February 2020 but was given a fresh posting on the orders of the SC early this month.
The government had in 2020 charged him with hatching a criminal conspiracy and abusing power in the purchase of security equipment. A case under Prevention of Corruption Act was also registered against him. The charge pertained to the period when Rao was chief of state Intelligence wing during the Chandrababu Naidu government.
