Chennai (18.04.2023): In an interesting development, the name of Delhi commissioner of police Sanjay Arora (IPS: 1988: TN) has figured in the race for the post of next DGP of the state. Arora's (former DG, ITBP) present tenure in Delhi under inter-cadre deputation and his parent cadre continues to be Tamil Nadu. Sources say that the officer has already given his consent to be considered for the Tamil Nadu DGP post.

This means there will be at least 11 DGP-rank officers eligible to be considered for the top job. Incumbent DGP C Sylendra Babu (IPS: 1987: TN) is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2023. He was appointed as the head of police force by the DMK government in May 2021 for a fixed term of two years ending June this year. He was to originally retire from service in June 2022. 

The development assumes significance in the backdrop of perpetual murmuring that following his appointment as Delhi CP senior UT Cadre IPS officers took it as if it shattered their dream of joining the race for Delhi’s top cop.
