D P S Negi takes over as DG, Labour Bureau

D P S Negi (IES:1985) on May 6, 2020 took charge as Director General, Labour Bureau in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. On April 29, 2020, Negi was appointed as DG, Labour Bureau and also as Senior Labour and Employment Advisor in the ministry. He has assumed charge of Senior Labour and Employment Advisor of the ministry. This is for the first time that a dual charge has been given to an IES officer, which is a recognition to his career spanning 35 years.  Prior to this assignment, Negi served as Advisor Finance, MSME.

Earlier as Director, Social Security, Ministry of Labour and Employment, he pushed key reforms and amendments in five Social Security Legislations and Acts, including EPF and MP Act, 1952. Further, as CEO (Director and Head of Department) in the National Buildings Organization, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, between 2006 and 2014, Negi facilitated and led projects worth Rs 1,20,000 crore towards the creation of housing for all.

Labour Bureau collects and analyses data related to workers, employment and retail inflation.
