A new secretary-level post has been created in the Maharashtra's water resources department for better implementation of Centrally-funded projects and represents the state for matters related to inter-state water sharing. Indianmandarins has learnt that the Maharashtra cabinet was expected to approve the proposal on Tuesday for the creation of the new post of secretary (special). Sources said a non-IAS officer may be appointed to the new position. Possibly, a senior department engineer may be elevated to the post. Following the creation of the new post, the department will now have an IAS officer and two technical cadre officers as secretaries. "A need to create a dedicated post to oversee implementation of Centrally-funded projects and represent the state in inter-state matters was felt," said a senior official. The Maharashtra government has so far struggled to infuse momentum in the implementation of big dam projects that had suffered during the previous Congress-NCP regime.
