New Delhi (26.07.2023): Five days ahead of the retirement of incumbent Chairman, the meeting of Committee of Secretaries (CoS) took place to select Vivek Johri’s (IRS C&IT: 1985) successor as the next Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Custom (CBIC).
Sources say that the CoS deliberated upon names of two batch mates for the coveted post namely Rajiv Talwar (IRS C&IT: 1988) and Sanjay Kumar Agarwal (IRS C&IT: 1988).
Insiders believe that if CoS follows the cardinal principle, the senior most Member Talwar has maximum chances. Talwar is considered among the finest lot in the Cadre. But Agrawal’s work portfolio i.e. Compliance Management indicates his competence and utility for the establishment as he supervises key verticals including DGRI and DG GST Intelligence.
It may be underlined that initially news about Johri getting an extension was being speculated but today’s meeting of CoS put speculations to rest.
