An official Standing Committee, headed by steel secretary, has clarified to consumer industries that they must ensure purchase of domestically produced iron and steel products wherever feasible. This follows representations from Ministry of Railways, ONGC Limited, Indian Pipe Manufacturers Association (IPMA) and  Seamless Tube Manufacturers Association of India (STMAI). They had sought certain clarifications on the DMI&SP Policy notified in May. Accordingly, the Standing Committee held its first meeting on 21.06.2017 and clarified the issues raised by these 4 organizations.
