The Congress Party is now playing the spoiler with the career of officials. On Friday, it forced the selection committee for central information commissioners to drop Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi from the list of contenders for a senior role in the country's top anti-graft agency.
The selection committee that appoints Information Commissioners is headed by the Prime Minister, and includes the Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
The government had shortlisted Bassi for the CIC, which has three vacancies for Commissioner. He retires from the Delhi Police at the end of this month and had applied for the post of Information Commissioner.
After the news broke out, Bassi told the media "The decision doesn't bother me at all."
