New Delhi (29.04.2026): Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced that it has entered into a Licensing Agreement for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) with the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), a constituent laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Vishakhapatnam.
The agreement, disclosed by BHEL in a regulatory filing dated April 28, 2026, pertains to the Fabrication, Installation, and Commissioning of the LM2500 Gas Turbine Infrared Suppression System (GT-IRSS) for naval vessels. The system has been designed and developed by NSTL–DRDO to enhance the operational capability and survivability of naval platforms.
Under the agreement, BHEL will undertake technology absorption and execution activities related to the GT-IRSS solution, marking a significant addition to its defence manufacturing portfolio. The collaboration is expected to strengthen BHEL’s presence in the defence sector and support indigenous defence production.
The company noted that the initiative aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India” programme, promoting self-reliance in critical defence technologies. The agreement is also expected to enhance BHEL’s capabilities in high-end engineering solutions for strategic applications.
BHEL has stated that further commercial details of the agreement, including financial terms and conditions, are confidential in nature. The disclosure has been submitted to stock exchanges in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
