The Govt of India is reported to have deferred the proposal to put up Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for sale to the private sector companies. BEML was the the first Defence Public Sector Unit being put up for sale to the private sector; a move which could adversely affect national security concerns and self-reliance. The employees of BEML had waged a prolonged struggle against the disinvestment of the Defence PSU. The central government recently confirmed that the move to privatise BEML the Bharat had been deferred. Minister of State for Defence said; "Government has deferred the strategic disinvestment of BEML in order to undertake further diligence exercise on various aspects as considered necessary,".
