Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that a Joint Secretary rank IAS officer may be rewarded with the central deputation tenure beyond seven years.
The officer was appointed a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance in April 2015 and was given an important assignment dealing with the DBT. The strong government focus on the implementation of DBT may be the reason the government may have thought of giving one more extension to him. That may make his case rare and exceptional.
It may be mentioned that there are provisions for a maximum seven-year tenure of central deputation for CSS and Non-CSS posts put together. Though no provisions for central deputation tenure beyond 07 years exist, those in the know of affairs say that it is the prerogative of the ACC headed by the PM to make an exception. But becoming a case of an exception too is no less a privilege which only a few are blessed with.
