SC collegium headed by chief justice Dipak Mishra overruled the Centre's objections and recommended Uttarakhand high court chief justice K M Joseph's name for appointment as Supreme Court judge. Prior to this, Centre had pointed out that the state of Kerala is adequately represented at SC and the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe do not have adequate representation at the top echelon of judiciary. The Centre had made its point loud and clear. Apart from K M Joseph, the SC collegium sent two more names including Madras high court's chief justice Indira Banerjee and Orissa high court's chief justice Vineet Saran for appointment as SC judge. If Indira Banerjee is cleared for this position, Supreme Court will have three women judges.
