The countdown for selection of new Chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is said to have begun. Indianmandarins has learnt that the search-cum-selection-committee may interview about 10 shortlisted candidates on March 15. This critically important post has been ironically lying vacant since December 2014. Power corridors are abuzz that the present government has miserably failed to fill the critically important post in April last year.
Currently, Joint Secretary (HRD) Y S K Seshukumar (IFS:1987:UP) is holding the additional charge of Chairman since September 2015. Prior to Seshukumar Dr Satbir Silas Bedi (IAS:1987:UT) held the additional charge from December 2014 and in August 2015.
The post of Chairman CBSE fell vacant in August 2014 following the completion of Vineet Joshi's (IAS:1992:MT) as regular Chairman. Prior to becoming the regular Chairman in November 2009 he also held the additional charge for over year since August 2008.
