If some well-placed sources are to be believed Praveen Pardeshi (IAS:1985:MH) may opt for VRS. A set of developments that took place in quick succession over a few weeks put the buzz in a logical framework as well. Pardeshi was moved out from the post of BMC Commissioner on May 09 after Mumbai turned out to be the epicenter of active COVID-19 cases. The Govt took the step ignoring its own ‘No-Transfer’ order and posted him as Additional Chief Secretary in the Urban Development Department. Instead of taking over the charge of the new post, he applied for leave on May 10. Since then power corridors of Mantralay are abuzz that Pardeshi has started gauging the prospects to move on Central deputation. Further, his non-empanelment for holding Secretary-level posts at Centre is seen a deterrent against the buzz. Having residual service till December 2021 does not leave many avenues and a brighter prospect especially when the Union Health Ministry Spokesperson too underlined flaws in containing the spread of COVID-19 in Mumbai. Contrary to this sources say that his proximity with former Maharashtra CM Fadavvis may work and get him suitable space at Centre and he may avoid opting for VRS.
