Many
developments are taking place in Gujarat bureaucracy swiftly. The DPC cleared
seven names for ACS rank promotion; announcement of full-time Police
Commissioner for Ahmedabad too is inching closer. The next immediate thing in
the state is announcement of successor to the outgoing Chief Secretary Jagdip
Narayan Singh (IAS:1983:GJ) who is completing his extended tenure this week.
Several names from 1985 and 1986 batch have been doing rounds for the top job
but Indianmandarins has learnt that the coveted post may go to a 1984 batch IAS
officer with Arvind Agrawal as Singh’s likely successor. Though he has only
five months to retire but in view of previous records Gujarat Govt appears to
be liberal enough in giving extension to the head of bureaucracy. If that be
the case, Agrawal will have a ten months long tenure as Chief Secretary.
