Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that Akshay Kumar Rout (IIS:1984), DG (Special Project), in Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DWS), has been relieved of his duties so as to be repatriated. It is also learnt that the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry has requested for repatriation of Rout citing the shortage of Indian Information Service cadre officers at higher ranks.
The development drew attention especially because Rout's tenure at DWS was yet to be over. This repatriation of Rout is considered unusual as his stay was too short in the DWS to accomplish the assigned task.
It may be noted that Rout was appointed as the OSD Swachha Bharat Mission in May 2016 to promote the Mission in audio-visual and on digital media platforms.
