West Bengal Governor orders ‘midnight assembly session’

1500Kolkata (01.03.2022): West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar summoned West Bengal’s assembly session past midnight at 2 am on March 7. In a Tweet, Dhankar said: The meeting time is unusual and history of sorts in the making. The governor pointed out that the decision was taken according to a recommendation of the state cabinet. The decision to call the assembly session at the odd hour was taken accepting the cabinet decision, the Governor said. The ruling TMC and the opposition parties are surprised. The CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty said: “This is unimaginable. But as the party’s name is TMC and the chief minister is Mamata Banerjee, it suits them.” “Midnight session! State government’s head in disorder” said BJP legislator Suvendu Adhikari. The ruling party TMC is unable to accept the decision yet. The state government is clarifying it as a typographical error. Now a fresh cabinet decision on this matter will resolve this issue to convene assembly at 2pm on March 7.
