Kolkata (05.05.2026): West Bengal Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala (IAS: 1993: WB) has issued a strict directive on May 4, 2026, ordering all departments to ensure preventing removal, damage, or burning of official documents. The order bans unauthorized copying or scanning of files as the state transitions power, ensuring accountability, with department heads held personally accountable.
All departmental secretaries and heads of offices are tasked with ensuring no files or documents are taken out of offices. Unauthorised copying, scanning, or movement of records is forbidden. Head of Departments are personally responsible for complying with this directive. The order followed the 2026 West Bengal election results, which indicated a change in government after the 15-year-long Trinamool Congress (TMC) rule. The directive ensures that all government records are protected during the transition phase.
