N S Vishwanathan appointed new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Currently, he is serving as an executive director at the central bank. He will succeed H R Khan as the Deputy Governor of RBI on July 3, 2016, according to an official announcement.
The RBI has a provision for four deputy governors, two of whom are appointed from outside while the other two are traditionally appointed from those working within RBI.
He has served as Principal Chief General Manager in the RBI's Department of non-banking supervision has been RBI's Executive Director since April 2014.
Vishwanathan, MA (Economics), served as a Director of Punjab National Bank from September 6, 2012, to May 31, 2013. He was also a nominee director at Dena Bank from May 30, 2011, to September 6, 2012.
He has served as Chief General Manager of Vigilance at IFCI Ltd, a Delhi-based government-owned finance company.
