The Union Cabinet may consider the report of the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) on 7th CPC on Wednesday. The CoS was tasked with reviewing the 7th CPC recommendations and it submitted its report on Monday. The Seventh Pay Commission has announced a 23.55% increase in pay and allowances of serving central government employees and a 24% increase in pension of retired officers. If this award is implemented from January 1, 2016, the total expenditure is estimated at Rs 1.02 lakh crore, providing a big demand boost to the economy. However, in view of fiscal constraints, the government may opt for a lower increase and also delay the implementation of the increase in allowances.
