Diplomats of Cold War foes Russia and U.S.will today join their international colleagues for a meeting in New York to work out parameters of cooperation to end the Syrian conflict and destroy the ISIL threat.
Already some ground work has already been done and there is a distinct possiblity of the US and Russia aligning their military plans in Syria.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said he reached "some common ground" with Putin on Syria after three hours of talks in Moscow on Tuesday.
"Russia will do all it can to resolve the situation in Syria," even with the tensions with neighboring Turkey, Putin told reporters Thursday.
During the past two years, relations between the U.S. and Russia have degenerated to their worst since the Cold War amid Putin's support for separatists in Ukraine, Russian accusations of NATO encroachment and disagreements over resolving Syria's civil war.
