New Delhi (23.05.2026): After the Government's abrupt order of handing over possession of 27.3-acre prime land of Delhi Gymkhana Club to the concerned ministry by July 5, 2026, now the spotlight has also shifted to other important clubs for them also being in the close proximity of Parliament and other prime locations like the Press Club of India, Chelmsford Club on Raisina Road; Delhi Golf Club near Lodhi Garden; and Indian Women’s Press Corps on Ashoka Road.
PCI and IWPC have been issued several notices in the past to vacate the premises they are housed in but somehow they managed to evade those orders. But the way government is working on its Central Vista and other projects, the sword is hanging over these clubs too to get them vacated.
Plans of New Parliament Building, facelift of Kartavya Path and the entire Central Vista Projects were planned and executed amid Coronavirus outbreak hitting the world the worst including India and announcements about them came as a surprise which had sent shockwaves to Lutyens’ Delhi. It might have fetched wide criticism to the government with some optimism but the government executed and is working on its plans the way it envisaged them. Once some of the projects were completed, the criticism mellowed down and apprehension petered out gradually over the Central Vista project.
After a long legal wrangle between Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Delhi Gymkhana Club, the latest notice appears a bane for beneficiaries but boon for potential beneficiaries.
