Hardeep Singh Puri, a career diplomat who was India's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, has been named the next chairman of MEA's think tank Research and Information System for Developing Countries. Puri had joined the BJP after retiring from government service. The second appointment is that of Ashok Kantha, who retired as India's ambassador to China. He has now been made the head of Institute for Chinese Studies. Kantha, also a career diplomat, is a son-in-law of senior BJP leader and former External affairs and Finance minister Yashwant Sinha.
