North Eastern states have been the focused areas for the Modi government so besides many other things, Union Ministry of Tourism is planning development and promotion of tourism in the region. Ministry under its Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD Schemes has sanctioned 18 projects covering all the North Eastern states for Rs 1,456 crore.

These activities include:

  1. Release of television campaigns on Doordarshan and private new channels in the country.
  2. Production of publicity material, creatives and television commercials/promotional films on the region
  3. The North East region is the theme of India Pavilion set up by Ministry at the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE)
  4. Complimentary space is provided to the North Eastern states for their participation in the India Pavilion set up by the ministry at international travel fairs and exhibitions
  5. The ministry organizes an annual International Tourism Mart in the North Eastern region with the objective of highlighting the tourism potential of the region
  6. Projects under the Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD are identified for development in consultation with state governments and UT Administrations and are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable detailed project reports, adherence to scheme guidelines and utilization of funds released earlier.
  7. The ministry identified Kaziranga as one of the 17 sites for development in the country under the Development of Iconic Tourist site scheme.
