LUCKNOW (22.05.2026): In a major administrative overhaul aimed at recalibrating its core law enforcement machinery, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday executed a sweeping reshuffle of top-tier Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, affecting crucial Director General (DG) and Additional Director General (ADG) rank positions across the state.

DG Rank Shifts: 
The reshuffle brings a definitive realignment at the DG level, with senior officers from the 1994 and 1995 batches taking over critical independent and regulatory wings as follows:
  1. Jai Narayan Singh (IPS: 1994), who was previously steering the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) as its DG, has been assigned as the DG of the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
  2. Binod Kumar Singh (IPS: 1994) has been designated to head the tech-and-response heavy formations as DG, Cyber Crime and UP-112.
  3. Dhruv Kant Thakur (IPS: 1994) has been moved to take charge as DG (Home Guards), alongside holding the crucial additional responsibility of Civil Defence.
  4. Alok Singh (IPS: 1995), moving up from his field assignment as the ADG of the high-profile Kanpur Zone, has been elevated to the apex rank as DG (Provincial Armed Constabulary - PAC), while additionally helming the Special Security Force (SSF).
Realignment in Key ADG Fields and Zones: 
The state has also heavily recalibrated its zonal and specialized ADG commands to fortify regional law and order:
  1. Anupam Kulshreshtha (IPS: 1995), widely recognized for her administrative grip, has been shifted out of the crucial Agra Zone to take over the reigns as the new ADG of Kanpur Zone, filling the vacuum left by Alok Singh’s elevation.
  2. S.K. Bhagat (IPS: 1998) moves out of the police headquarters where he was serving as ADG (Crime) to take over the crucial field posting as ADG of Agra Zone vice Kulshreshtha.
  3. A. Satish Ganesh (IPS: 1996) has been given a significantly heavier portfolio. Already helming Traffic and Road Safety, he has now been assigned the additional, high-stakes charge of ADG (Crime) at the headquarters.
  4. Dr. R.K. Swarnakar (IPS: 1996) has been transitioned out of the PAC and moved to corporate vigilance, taking over as the ADG at the UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL).

Mid-Level Adjustments: 
Further down the line, the state also adjusted key training mandates. 
Geeta Singh (IPS: 2007), who was serving as the Inspector General (IG) of Prosecution in Lucknow, has been transferred and posted as IG (Training) in Lucknow, a move seen as part of the state's focus on institutional capacity building.
