1246New Delhi (22.05.2026): Rajiv Singh (IPS: 1993: TR),
Director General of Police, Government of Manipur, has been transferred and
appointed as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. The decision of
the ACC can be counted important on many counts. One of the most important considerations could be that the
Home Ministry is now focusing on issues of infiltration and vulnerability of
Chicken’s Neck corridor connecting North East with the rest of India. With the
BJP governments in Bihar, West Bengal, Tripura and Assam, the Home Ministry with
the help of state administrations may make a concerted effort towards its plan to Detect, Detain and Deport infiltrators and expedite fencing to check them entering into India. This needs an officer who has hands on experience of working in
the region. The appointment of Singh is being looked upon in that perspective. The West Bengal government recently transferred nearly 120
acres of land and management of seven vital national highways within Siliguri
Corridor, or "Chicken's Neck" to the Ministry of Home
Affairs which aims to accelerate border fencing, strengthen military logistics,
and improve national security. This is to recall that Singh was appointed as Director General of Police (DGP) of
the violence-hit Manipur on June 1, 2023 replacing P Doungel (IPS: 87: MA). He
was sent to Manipur on inter-cadre deputation for three years. His transfer to Manipur came at a time when state was witnessing ethnic
conflict since violence broke out in the state on May 3, 2023. ALSO READ
