New Delhi (28.08.2023): Out of total six scheduled retirements of Union secretaries this month, two senior most of them have got extension till August next year, two have been given reasonably good post-retirement positions whereas two are all set to retire in next three days. Yet a section of insiders believes that the last two would have brighter post-retirement prospects.
Ministry of Electronics & IT:
Alkesh Kumar Sharma (IAS: 1988: KL), the incumbent Union Secretary for Electronics & IT, will be hanging his boots this week on Thursday. A section of insiders believe that he may get some post-retirement assignment.
Ministry of Civil Aviation:
Rajiv Bansal (IAS: 1988: NL), the incumbent Union Secretary for Civil Aviation, will be retiring this week though Chanchal Kumar (IAS: 1992: BH) has already joined as OSD to take over the baton from Bansal as the new Union Secretary for Civil Aviation. A section of top officials considers that the New Delhi establishment may pick Rajiv Bansal for a key post-retirement position sooner or later. He is considered to be member of a select section of high-profile secretaries who are often seen as choicest officer for the post-retirement positions.
Ministry of Chemicals & Petrochemicals:
Further, Arun Baroka (IAS: 1990: UT), Union Secretary for Chemicals & Petrochemicals retiring this month end, have already got a respectable position as Member, NCLAT weeks before his retirement. Baroka will hand over the charge to his successor Nivedita Shukla Verma (IAS: 1991: UP) to take over as Member, NCLAT.
FSSAI:
Interestingly, the incumbent FSSAI, CEO Ganji Kamala V Rao (IAS: 1990: KL) will also bid adieu to service but he will continue as CEO, FSSA for another one year on contract-basis.
Ministry of Telecom:
In case the New Delhi establishment fills Secretary-level vacancies arising this month the appointment of Telecom Secretary post may also be considered, the post that fell vacant last month after K Rajaraman (IAS: 1989: TN) was picked as Chairman, IFSCA (GIFT City) three months ahead of scheduled his retirement i.e. 31.10.2023.
Further, it may be worth underlining that Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba (IAS: 1982: JH) and Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla (IAS: 1984: AM) have already secured one year extension ahead of the decisive LS Polls 2024.
