It has now raked up an avoidable controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation in the Combined Commander Conference in Dehradun later today. And surprisingly, the Election Commission of India, which is permanently desperate to project an impartial image, has asked the defense ministry to ensure that "the official visit shall not be combined with any public meeting" and is not used as a platform to make any "announcement" that may "affect" the electoral process. The EC is made up of veteran civil servants and so many are wondering whether there was any need for the EC to even take a notice of Congress criticism of CCC conference. Ever since Modi became the PM, the CCC conference is routinely held at different places outside Delhi. What may, though, explain Congress opposition is that Uttarakhand has a large number of soldiers' population. And hence the party is worried about the impact of CCC conference on their voting preference.
