As the bell struck 05.30 PM on Thursday evening in New Delhi, social media activists were seen flooding WhatsApp & Twitter with highly creative news and views about the appointment of Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Delhi, as the next Director of Enforcement Directorate. Some of these activists also argued that G C Murmu (IAS:1985: GJ) could also be named as the ED Chief.

It turned out, though, by midnight that the news and views were both personal and were intended to play on the curiosity factor of people in the administration who thought and argued that in the backdrop of CBI feud, the Govt may be under political pressure not to keep a key position vacant as outgoing ED Chief Karnal Singh (IPS:1984: UT) was scheduled to complete his tenure next day on Friday.

The interesting thing about social media messages about Mishra and Murmu as prospective names for ED Chief was their tone of finality.
