New Delhi (21.12.2021): As part of its restructuring plans ensuring the enhancement of functional autonomy, efficiency and to unleash new growth potential and innovation in Ordnance Factories under the administrative control of Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) seven Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) were carved out w.e.f. 01.10.2021 covering 41 units. In a written reply to Mrs Ambika Soni in Rajya Sabha on Monday Raksha Rajya Mantri Ajay Bhatt informed the house. Details of DPSU and production facilities are as follows: Munitions India Limited (MIL): Headquartered at Khadki (Pune) MIL is mandated to handle factories manufacturing ammunition & explosives has 12 factories under its administrative control namely; Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI): Headquartered at Avadi ( Chennai) has been carved out for manufacturing vehicles. It has 5 production units under its administrative control namely; Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India): Headquartered in Kanpur AWE India has been drafted to manufacture weapons & equipment is. AWE India has 8 production facilities namely; Troop Comforts Limited (TCL): Headquartered in Kanpur TCL is envisaged to design, develop and manufacture Troop Comfort Items has Yantra India Limited (YIL) (Ancillary): Headquartered in Nagpur YIL has 8 factories at various locations namely; India Optel Limited (IOL): Headquartered in Dehradun IOL was carved out to develop, design, and manufacture the Opto-Electronics segment and it has three factories namely; Gliders India Limited (GIL), headquartered in Kanpur, has only one production unit ‘Ordnance Parachute Factory’ which develops and manufacture parachutes. Reportedly, the restructured and newly carved out seven DPSUs aim at transforming Ordnance Factories into productive and profitable assets, enhanced competitiveness, and improving efficiency. These DPSUs have been empowered with more functional and financial autonomy and accountability.
