New Delhi (17.10.2024): The Supreme Court of India summoned chief secretaries of Punjab and Haryana to explain the lack of proper legal action against those indulging in stubble burning. A bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Augustin George Masih verbally observed that the attitude is a complete defiance. This is not a political matter. If the chief secretaries are acting at someone's behest, we will issue summons against them.
The bench asked why are you shy of prosecuting people? The SC warned that if it's directions are not complied within a week, it will issue contempt against the chief secretaries.
