SC Collegium recommends transfer and elevation of 14 High Court chief justices and judges

The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on Monday (14.12.20) recommended the elevation of the following Judges of High Court Judges as Chief Justices. Further, the Collegium recommended the transfer of four HC Chief Justice. In addition, the Collegium also recommended the transfer of the five HC Judges.

Five Hight Court Judges may be elevated as Chief Justice of High Court;

  • S. Muralidhar will be elevated as Chief Justice, Orissa High Court. Presently, he is Judge in the Punjab & Delhi High Court.
  • Ms Hima Kohli (Judge, Delhi HC) will be elevated as Chief Justice, Telangana High Court.
  • Sanjib Banerjee (Judge, Calcutta HC) will be elevated as Chief Justice, Madras High Court.
  • Pankaj Mithal (Judge, Allahabad HC) will be elevated as Chief Justice, Jammu & Kashmir High Court.
  • Sudhanshu Dhulia (Judge, Uttarakhand HC) will be elevated as Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court. 
As per the recommendation Chief Justice of High Court of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Sikkim may be transferred to Uttarakhand, Sikkim, MP & AP respectively. Accordingly;

  • R S Chauhan (Chief Justice Telangana HC)  may be transferred to Uttarakhand HC
  • J K Maheshwari (CJ, Andhra Pradesh HC) may be transferred to Sikkim High Court.
  • Mohammad Rafiq (CJ, Orissa HC) may be transferred to Madhya Pradesh High Court.
  • A K Goswami (CJ, Sikkim HC) may be transferred to Andhra Pradesh High Court

Further, five High Court Judges were also recommended to be transferred as follows:

  • Sanjay Yadav (Judge, Madhya Pradesh HC) may be transferred to Allahabad High Court
  • Rajesh Bindal (Judge, J&K HC) may be transferred to Calcutta High Court
  • Vineet Kothari (Judge, Madras HC) may be transferred to Gujarat High Court
  • Joymalya Bagchi (Judge, Calcutta HC) may be transferred to Andhra Pradesh High Court.
  • Satish Chandra Sharma (Judge, Madhya Pradesh HC) may be transferred to Karnataka High Court.
