New Delhi (09.05.2026): The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Friday ratified the appointment of Kurve Sachin Shardchandra as Chairperson of Chennai Port Authority, Chennai, for a period of five years. Known for his extensive experience in both the hilly terrains of Uttarakhand and the industrial landscape of Maharashtra he has transitioned to a top-tier role in maritime administration as the successor of Sunil Paliwal (IAS: 1993: TN).
In this key role, he will oversee one of India’s most strategic maritime gateways, focusing on infrastructure modernization, berth mechanization, implementation of "Smart Port" initiatives and green port development.
Prior to this he served as the Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Uttarakhand and CEO, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board. In addition, he held concurrent charges as Secretary for Industries, Excise, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs. He has served as the District Magistrate (DM) of four major districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, and Rudraprayag. He also served as Additional Secretary to the Governor of Uttarakhand.
During his stint in Maharashtra between 2015 and 2020 on Inter-Cadre deputation he served as Secretary to the Chief Minister and worked in the CMO. He also served as District Collector, Nagpur & Mumbai Suburban.
