New Delhi (01.09.2022): The Centre on Thursday assigned the additional charge of CMD, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to BVR Subrahmanyam (IAS:1987:CG) following the completion of the tenure of LC Goyal (retd lAS:1979:KL) on August 31. Subrahmanyam, popularly known as BVR, is presently the Union Commerce Secretary and is scheduled to retire this month.
Center not giving an extension to Goyal ahead of the G-20 Summit while giving additional charge to Union Commerce secretary ahead of retirement in next 30 days assumes significance.
It is worth noting here that Goyal got five successive extensions until the mammoth construction of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project passed through critical stages. He was seen as getting another extension as well but the non-extension indicates that the deck was cleared for a dynamic officer equipped to steer the global event.
With G-20 having former MEA Secretary Harsh V Shringla as Chief Coordinator and Amitabh Kant as new Sherpa there appears a turn for G-20 to get a dynamic officer who is well versed with the emerging world order. Is this BVR Subramanyam for G-20?
