New Delhi (12.08.2024): When Rajiv Gauba (IAS: 1982: JH) hangs his boots, he would have already created the history of becoming the longest-serving Cabinet Secretary who made his tryst with central assignment by joining the office of former Defence Minister George Fernandes. The then defence minister identified his calibre as Muzaffarpur DM from where he got elected to Lok Sabha.
Gauba was appointed CS on 30.08.2019 and his last day in the office would be on 29.08.2024 which is a complete five years in the office. Till Gauba broke the re cord B D Pandey, later became Karnataka Governor, was considered to be the longest-serving CS who served from 11-02-1972 to 03-31-1977 that comes to around four years and four months. Gauba will demit the office on 29th of this month with a trophy of being the longest-serving Cabinet Secretary in the history of Indian bureaucracy.
