As Indianmandarins had reported first on June 28 T K Rajendran (IPS:1984:TN) may soon be named as regular DGP of Tamil Nadu. The file has been sent to the Governor for clearance. He is scheduled to retire on June 30 but immediately after the formal announcement of his appointment as regular DGP he will get two-year fixed tenure in office as per the SC guidelines in the Prakash Singh case. The TN Police Act also prescribes that an officer appointed as DGP "shall hold the post for a minimum period of two years, irrespective of the date of his/her superannuation."
Currently, Rajendran serves as DGP (Intelligence) and holds the additional charge as DGP (Law and Order). He is also the Chairman, Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (USRB).
It may be noted that UPSC this week approved the panel of senior IPS officers in the State for appointment to the top post. They are; Archana Ramasundaram, K. Radhakrishnan and K.P Maghendran.
