Railways: Around 1.81 lakh vacancies filled up in 5 years; over 3 lakh still vacant

New Delhi (15.12.2022): The Government in its response to questions on vacancies available and recruitments made so far informed the Parliament that there are total 2021 Group A, 858 Group B and 3,12,944 Group C vacancies in various units of Indian Railways. The Government recruited 1,78,544 people in group C in the last five years i.e. up to November 1, 2022 while 2240 Group A vacancies were filled up in the last five years i.e up to September 15, 2022. Maximum vacancies lying vacant are in the Western Railway with 30,698 posts in Group A, B and C together while Metro Rail has the minimum vacancy with 961 posts vacant under all the three groups.
There are over three lakh vacancies still lying under Group C category while around 900 in Group B and over 2000 in Group A. The total recruitment in the past five years stands at 180,784 while total positions of all the three groups still lying vacant comes to around 3,15,823.
Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge asked four questions on vacancies and recruitments made in Indian Railways (a) whether several top management positions in Railways are currently vacant; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) the details of the total number of vacancies in Indian Railways, group-wise and zone- wise; and (d) the details of the total number of new recruitments made by Railways in the last five years, year-wise?  The detailed answers were given by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. The maximum recruitment was made during 2019-20 when 127,697 Group A and Group C vacancies were filled up.
