At the time of VRS served in the rank of DIG. He sought retirement in November 2014, and was relieved by the Home department (Govt of Gujarat) on 26 February this year. The officer, known for having crossed the swords with Gujarat government over the probe of 2002 riots, has applied to the Bar Council of Gujarat to be enrolled as a lawyer. His enrolment is expected shortly by the enrolment committee of BCG. Though he had sought VRS citing personal reasons but later blamed (in lighter mood) his forgotten engineering skills for taking a plunge into legal profession which would him a lot as had often dealt with the law during his twenty three years long police service.
