New Delhi (25.02.21): If some well-placed sources are to be believed former Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi (Retd IPS:1977:UT) may be appointed as the next Puducherry Lieutenant Governor. He was appointed Member, UPSC in June 2016.

Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind assigned the additional charge of Puducherry to Telengana Governor, Tamilisai Soundararajan after the Centre on 16 February removed Kiran Bedi from the coveted post of LG.

It may be underlined that the Narayanasamy government in Puducherry was reduced to a minority following resignations of Congress MLAs and a DMK legislator. Following which, Narayanasamy resigned himself on February 22.

In the light of this political drama, President's rule was imposed by the Centre as no party came forward to form the government in the Union Territory.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday said that model code of conduct was expected to come into effect soon after the Election Commission announces the dates for Assembly elections in the UT, along with the four states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and West Bengal.
