has learnt that around 135 IRS officers serving as Additional Commissioner
(Income Tax) are being considered for promotion as Commissioner (Income Tax). Top
authorities at CBDT anticipate a tough time ahead amid growing revenue targets
and inadequate strength of batches under consideration. It may be noted that
1996 batch comprises of 29 officers whereas 1997, 1998 & 1999 batch
comprises of 25, 35 and 45 officers respectively.
The
GST regime still requires to be made more effective so far and this required a lot of
monitoring, supervision and control on tax evasion. Now this promotion is
aimed at strengthening the supervision to achieve the revenue target.
