Ministers for Power and New & Renewable Energy of States & Union Territories will meet in Rajgir, Bihar, on November 10-11 to review the implementation of various schemes/programmes and to deliberate on a host of issues pertaining to the sector.
The conference will be inaugurated by Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh who may emphasize on the implementation of the Saubhagya scheme in view of its political dividends. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Saubhagya scheme (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana) in September to achieve 100 percent electrification of households by December 2018.
According to the agenda, four crore households are estimated to be electrified under the Saubhagya scheme. Around 90 percent of these are located in seven BJP-critical States - Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Assam.
The total cost under the scheme is estimated to be Rs16,320 crore, including Gross Budgetary Support of Rs12,320 crore from the Centre.
