Los Angeles (13.03.2023): Indians took to social media to celebrate the double Oscar win for India for the Telugu blockbuster "RRR" and Tamil documentary short "The Elephant Whisperers". At the 95th Academy Awards, "RRR" charted history by becoming the first Indian track to win the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Naatu Naatu".
“The Elephant Whisperers”, directed by debutante Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, became the maiden Indian production to win in the Documentary Short Subject category. Period action blockbuster of S S Rajamouli ‘RRR’ (Rise Roar Revolt) created history by becoming the first Indian track to win the Academy Award in the Best Original Song category for "Naatu Naatu".
This is the third major international recognition for the chartbuster "Naatu Naatu", composed by MM Keeravaani and penned by Chandrabose, after a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award.
"Jai Ho" from the 2008 British film "Slumdog Millionaire", directed by Danny Boyle, was the first Hindi song to win an Academy Award in the Best Original Score and Original Song categories. It was composed by AR Rahman and penned by Gulzar.
