New Delhi (06.08.2021): After its own officers have been often impersonated, the CBI may be finding itself highly amused that even the NHAI chairman has been impersonated. And the impersonator, a native of Madhubani in Bihar and a resident of Gurugram, did his job so well that he made a quick buck of Rs 80 lakhs. Only when the contractor/ complainant subsequently realized that he was taken for a grand ride was the racket exposed - that too only after the Central Bureau of Investigation took up the matter and arrested the impersonator. The impersonator followed a good plan. Playing on the weakness of a contractor for getting jobs, he made him agree to transfer Rs 80 lakhs through Hawala. The recipients were supposed to be his daughter and son in law but it was him who personally collected the cash. The impersonator's arrest led the CBI to search eight premises including Delhi, Kolkata, Madhubani & Bokaro Steel City. The searches have yielded various incriminating documents and around 200 Sim cards.
